La Roche Posay Dermallergo Serum Review

If you have sensitive skin, you know how frustrating it can be to find a product that won’t cause a reaction. We have to be super careful and always do a patch test. Because if we put the wrong product on our face, we can enjoy a flushed appearance and sometimes even burning of the skin. But today, I will review a product that might help with all of that, La Roche Posay Dermallergo Serum.

About La Roche-Posay

La Roche Posay might be my favourite skincare brand. Actually, it is my favourite brand. If I’m looking for a product, any product, and I don’t know which brand I should go with, I will always end up with La Roche-Posay. I know my sensitive skin will be ok with it.

La Roche-Posay is a brand that puts an open focus on skin. But not like any other skincare brand. They emphasise delivering the best, most well-researched products for a wide range of skin concerns.

They say it themselves:

‘We are committed to offering highly effective products that can be tolerated by even the most sensitive skin, to help improve the quality of life of anyone with skin concerns ranging from acne to ageing, including eczema and allergy-prone skin.’

Honestly, after reading that description, I couldn’t wait to try out this product. If something is promising to relieve sensitive skin and repair the barrier of the skin, I have to try it.

Ingredients

AQUA / WATER ● DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL ● GLYCERIN ● BETAINE ● PROPANEDIOL ● PENTYLENE GLYCOL ● PEG-8 ● POLYSORBATE 20 ● PEG/PPG/POLYBUTYLENE GLYCOL-8/5/3 GLYCERIN ● SODIUM HYALURONATE ● AMMONIUM POLYACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE ● HYDROXYACETOPHENONE ● CAPRYLYL GLYCOL ● CITRIC ACID ● ACETYL DIPEPTIDE-1 CETYL ESTER ●

So, we have a product that is alcohol-free, fragrance-free and essential oil-free. Finally! A product without essential oils. Although essential oils don’t necessarily have to cause a reaction, they can. And if you have sensitive skin, you will try to avoid products with them, which is hard.

So it’s great to finally have a product with minimal ingredients that actually work on more than just hydrating, as they promise to repair the skin’s barrier and reduce sensitivity.

As we can see here, there isn’t anything here that could cause a reaction – just a bunch of humectants. The main star would be glycerin, as it has a few great benefits. It’s a moisturiser that keeps the skin lipids between our skin cells in a healthy state, protects against irritation, and helps to restore the barrier.

Another superstar is the last ingredient, Acetyl Dipeptide-1 Cetyl Ester. As we can see in the table above, it is a cell-communicating ingredient. They also call it a messenger of tranquillity and muscle relaxation. That is because it can “signal” our skin cells to “relax”, and it can instantly decrease skin irritations coming from heat, chemical stinging or mechanical stresses.

It is also claimed to be able to prevent the onset of wrinkles and expression lines thanks to its muscle relaxation properties.

Packaging, texture and use

Packaging

It comes in a small blue bottle with a dropper. That is a fantastic solution for the packaging as it gives us a perfect amount of product and is more hygienic than dipping your fingers into a pot. And the box it comes in looks like any other La Roche Posay product. So I don’t have too much to say about that.

Texture

The texture is very nice and light. Immediately after applying it, it gives me a nice cooling feeling. And it’s not sticky at all. Hurrah!

Use

La Roche Posay says: Apply this comforting serum morning and evening on the face and neck. Store in a cool area 30 minutes before application to feel a refreshing effect.

And that is exactly what I’ve been doing – minus the store in the cool area part. But I might try that.

It goes on so smoothly and effortlessly, and it feels like a perfect thing to put on irritated skin as it calms it instantly.

Who is La Roche Posay Dermallergo Serum for

I think it is pretty clear who it’s for – any fellow sensitive skin sufferer or anyone prone to allergies, or who has dry skin.

Honestly, anyone with any kind of dryness or sensitivity on the skin will greatly benefit from this product.

My experience with La Roche Posay Dermallergo Serum

After about a month of using this product, I can see that my skin’s barrier is strengthened. Even at a two-week point, I was surprised when I saw how much healthier my skin looked.

Don’t get me wrong, I still have redness and sometimes even irritation, but my skin almost looks thicker, if that makes sense. It seems like it has got a new layer of protection, which gives it a plump look.

The almost water-like consistency is lovely to apply to the skin. It gets absorbed almost instantly and doesn’t leave that sticky feeling. What else could I ask for?

Conclusion

Serum was a product I always struggled to find a good one that would help me with my concerns. And now I found it.

This product will be a staple in my skincare cabinet as it would be a perfect ’emergency’ product in case there is a flare-up or just extra sensitive skin that day. But, for now, I will continue to use it every morning and night. Just to help my skin to get on a good path, and hopefully, with a stronger barrier, it will stop being such a sensitive mess.

If you suffer from any skin problems or have redness-prone, sensitive skin, I would recommend this product to you. I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with it.

Packaging: 5/5

The blue bottle looks very fancy, and the dropper gives the product a hygienic way of dispensing it.

Ingredients: 5/5

As I showed you above, the ingredient list is fantastic – there is nothing in here that could cause irritation and plenty that helps with skin sensitivity.

Value: 5/5

That is a bit higher price point product, but it’s worth it. I’m happy to pay more if the product does what it says on the tin. And this one does exactly that.

For 20ml of serum, you will pay €32.95. But you can often find La Roche Posay products on offer.

Overall: 5/5

I’m saying it again – La Roche Posay Dermallergo Serum will be a staple in my skincare cabinet. The way it works is perfect for my skin, and I will keep using it as it is the best serum I found so far for my skin.
