Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover Review

I already made a few posts about properly cleaning our faces and removing our makeup. There are posts about double cleansing and about how to choose a perfect face cleanser. I haven’t touched the subject of removing the eye makeup yet. But today, I will review a product that’s perfect for that task, Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover.

About Nivea

I like to start every review with a little bit of information about the brand, as I believe in supporting good brands and knowing to whom I’m giving my money.

Nivea has been around for over 100 years and is one of the biggest brands out there. They have over 50 products available in 173 countries around the world. They have around 2000 scientific researches done per year and about 1000 people working in the research and development department.

Nivea doesn’t do animal testing, and all of its packaging is 100% recyclable.

About Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover

So what they say is that the product can remove even the waterproof mascara without rubbing and pulling your skin. And that it can do all of that while nourishing and caring for our lashes. So, is that true, I hear you ask?

Nivea Double Effect Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover

Ingredients

Aqua, Isododecane, Isopropyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract, Tocopherol, Sodium Chloride, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Trisodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Benzethonium Chloride, CI 61565, CI 60725

As we can see in the ingredients, a few emollients (Isododecane, Isopropyl Palmitate) give the product a gentle silky feel and make the skin feel nourished. Also, some sunflower oil (Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil), water, and silicone (Dimethicone). Also, there is a preservative Phenoxyethanol, which is considered to be safe and gentle. At the end of the ingredient list, there are some colours as well. I would dare to say that they are a completely unnecessary addition to the list, but I assume they are there to clearly distinguish the two layers of the product.

All in all, the ingredients seem pretty ok for this type of product, and they do the job. You could probably use only pure sunflower oil (cold-pressed) to remove your eye makeup. But that would probably cause some blurriness in your eyes. As this product has emollients, it has a nice texture and doesn’t leave a greasy residue.

Packaging, texture and use

Packaging

This product comes in a clear bottle with a screw-top cap. That gives us a chance to see the layers of water and oil and see when the product is mixed and ready to use. The bottle is made from 96% recycled material and is fully recyclable, which is excellent. And the size is 125ml which will last you for a good while as you don’t need much product to remove the makeup.

Texture

I don’t have much to say about the texture of this product. Besides the fact that it is a gentle liquid when mixed, there isn’t much more to say.

When mixed, it becomes a cloudy, light blue colour.

Use

Nivea says:

As you can see, it’s pretty straightforward how to use it. You put it on a cotton pad (might I suggest reusable cotton pads), gently press the cotton pad to the eye and remove the makeup. To gently remove the makeup, gently press the cotton pad and hold it there for 30-60 seconds. As with this approach, you won’t be pulling and stretching the delicate skin around the eyes. And it will still remove the makeup perfectly.

To point out, layers start to separate very quickly after putting it down. So only make sure you shake it every time before putting it on a cotton pad.

Who is Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover for

Again, another product that is suitable for all skin types. Including the most sensitive ones and people wearing contact lenses. And also, it’s perfect for people that wear a lot of heavy eye makeup because Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover will remove all of it.

My experience with Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover

Yet another product I love. As a matter of fact, I love it so much that I’m on my 7th bottle. That says it all.

However, I don’t have much to compare it to as I haven’t tried many eye makeup removers. That is probably because I’m always coming back to this one.

As I said above, a bottle lasts for a good while. With wearing makeup five days a week, this product lasts me for around six weeks. And it’s super cheap. And often on offers which makes it even more affordable.

Conclusion

I feel like a broken record because every review so far was about a product I love. But that’s how it is. I won’t lie to you.

I honestly don’t even know why would I try any other eye makeup remover, as this one has it all.

To summarize, Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover is a great budget-friendly product ideal for any skin type. It does the job without any fuss.

Packaging: 5/5

The packaging, even though it’s simple, looks great as it has those layers that look visually interesting. And it’s fun to see layers mixing and separating. Or maybe that’s just a child in me talking.

Ingredients: 4/5

As I said above, I feel like they could’ve gone without the synthetic dyes, but I do see why they put them in there. It’s easier to use the product when you can see if you mixed it enough and know it’s ready to use. Otherwise, the ingredients are pretty simple but effective.

Value: 5/5

Repeating myself, that small bottle of 125ml lasts me around six weeks with almost daily use. And it costs nothing. Ok, maybe not nothing but cheap.

The price for 125 ml is €4.99, but I often see it on offer for €2.50

Overall: 4.67/5

I think I will be forever coming back to this product. The only thing I wish for is a bigger size. Just to save on plastic.

I have a few backups of this product, but after I finish them, I think I might try another brand. Just to see what else is on the market.

Have you tried this product? Or what is your favourite eye makeup remover?
