Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash Review

Today, I’m bringing you Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash Review. It is a product that is well known for being effective at a reasonable price. I feel face washing is a very important step in your skincare routine. But considering I’m washing it down the drain, I don’t want to pay a crazy price for it.

About Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash

Bioderma says:

The soothing micellar cleansing gel which reinforces the skin’s natural hydration.

  • Gently cleanses and removes make-up from face and eyes
  • Moisturises
  • Soothes and calms irritations

Very good skin and eye tolerance – Non-comedogenic – Soap-free – Unfragranced – Physiological pH

Ingredients:

AQUA/WATER/EAU, SODIUM COCOAMPHOACETATE, PROPANEDIOL, SODIUM LAUROYL SARCOSINATE, CITRIC ACID, COCO-GLUCOSIDE, GLYCERYL OLEATE, SODIUM CITRATE, PEG-90 GLYCERYL ISOSTEARATE, MANNITOL, XYLITOL, LAURETH-2, RHAMNOSE, FRUCTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES, TOCOPHEROL, HYDROGENATED PALM GLYCERIDES CITRATE, LECITHIN, ASCORBYL PALMITATE. [BI 722]

Finding a facial wash without SLS that still cleanses well can be tricky. But this is a lovely product that cleans well without it. Instead, they use sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, an ingredient derived from sarcosine. Sarcosine is an amino acid that is found naturally in the body. Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate is an effective cleansing agent that isn’t as harsh on the skin as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

Another cleansing agent in this product is Sodium Cocoamphoacetate. It’s a surfactant and a cleansing agent as it helps water and oil mix for better cleaning. It also helps stabilise foam and increase foam capacity.

Also, a great thing about this ingredient list is that it has no alcohol or perfumes or essential oils.

All in all, it’s a fantastic cleanser for sensitive skin, as the name suggests.

Packaging, texture and use

Packaging

Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash comes in handy pump bottle packaging. It has a lovely pink design and has a twist cap to prevent spillages in case of travelling. On the front of the bottle is writing in two languages which claims the product is soothing and moisturises. I don’t see that it is moisturising or soothing, but it does not aggravate the skin, so I find it good. The smaller sizes come in a 75ml squeezy tube, but because the product is so runny, I use the face wash much quicker. I only bought it in a smaller size when I went on holiday, so I don’t mind the packaging. I would much rather buy it like that than transfer it from my larger bottle into a reusable container, as I’m a bit distrustful towards the sanitary conditions of such a transfer.

Texture

It is a lightweight clear gel that foams gently when mixed with water. The foam itself is not very dense but somewhat airy and light. I find this kind of consistency cleans well and is a fantastic form for sensitive skin.

Use

Using this cleansing gel is pretty straightforward. You apply it on wet skin, work it into a foam and then rinse it off. Same as with any other face wash. What I find with this product is that I don’t need to rub it in as much as some other cleansers. The consistency changes from gel to foam pretty quickly, and it removes dirt and melted makeup easily. It’s very efficient for removing eye makeup as well, and it doesn’t sting my eyes at all. Also, it rinses easily and effortlessly, so there isn’t a lot of splashing around.

I usually use it as a second cleanser, but when I’m travelling, I use it as a morning cleanser as well to save on space in my carry-on.

Who is Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash for

As Bioderma themselves say, it is for adults and adolescents. That means it is suitable for any skin type and age. It is perfect for sensitive and reactive skin as it has no SLS and other harsh cleaners. But also for anyone looking for a product without SLS or fragrances. It can be used as a second cleanse in the evening and/or morning cleanse.

Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash Review

Who is it not for

Honestly, it is great for anyone and everyone. Unless you are specifically looking for a harsher or stronger cleanser that will take the makeup off on its own, this is a product for you. I don’t think it is effective for fully taking the makeup off, but it will take the oil or balm off when you use it to melt your makeup. You should ideally do the double cleanse every evening anyway. And if you’re unsure what the double cleanse is, click here: Double cleansing – why is it so important?

My experience with Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash

I find this product great for everyday use. It is gentle enough not to leave my skin tight and red but strong enough to remove my first cleanser combined with all the SPF, makeup and dirt from the day. If I want a slightly deeper cleanse, I make sure to work the product into my skin, and I massage it in for about sixty seconds. Because it has micellar technology, it works well in removing dirt and makeup without being harsh on the skin. The fact that the product is available in a smaller size (75ml) makes me very happy. That size offers a customer to try out the product before buying the full size, but it’s also handy for travelling as it is carry-on friendly.

After using the product for a couple of months, I can say I’m satisfied with it, and I did repurchase it in a smaller size twice. It never irritated my skin or left it dehydrated after use. On the contrary, I know I can use it when my skin is a bit more sensitive or irritated from other products. That being said, I’m going to try some other gentle cleansers (I have a list of products I want to try), but I will always keep this one in the back of my mind as a fail-safe.

Also, even though they claim this product to be soothing, I still think La Roche Posay Toleriane Face Wash is more soothing, as it actually calmed my redness. The Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash doesn’t calm my redness, but it doesn’t make it worse, either.

ProsCons
Non-irritatingNot strong enough to be the first cleanser in the evening – can’t take off the makeup on its own

Suitable for a morning cleanse and/or a second cleanse in the evening
Doesn’t sting the eyes

Conclusion

Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash Review shows a fantastic product for those looking for a mild yet effective cleanser. I would be happy to recommend it to teenagers starting to need some skincare as well.

Considering the ingredients, I am very impressed with how well it works. To have a cleanser that foams nicely and cleans well without SLS is a great win, in my opinion. Another great point is that it doesn’t sting the eyes, as sometimes I need something alongside my oil to remove my eye makeup.

Also, I like that it’s mild enough to be used in the morning but strong enough to remove the dirt in the evening.

All in all a fantastic product for any age and any skin type, particularly sensitive.

I would say it’s my number two favourite cleanser, as the La Roche Posay Toleriane Wash is still my number one.

Packaging: 5/5

The bigger size comes in a pump bottle which makes it easy to dose the product perfectly. Also, it has cute pink packaging that is hard to miss on the shelf. A smaller size, even though the packaging is not the best option, is still well designed and a great option for space-saving and to try out before buying the big size.

Ingredients: 4.5/5

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to give this product a 5/5 or 4/5 because it has an exceptional formula. But because it says on the bottle that it’s soothing, and I don’t find it does that for me, I’m giving it a 4.5 out of 5. Otherwise, I love that it has no SLS, alcohol or perfumes. It doesn’t irritate, but I also can’t say it soothes either.

Value: 5/5

For €13.45, you will get 200ml that will last you for about two to three months, depending on how often you use it (once or twice a day). And some pharmacies also offer a smaller size, 75ml, for about €5, which is a slightly worse value but a great option as a travel size. Also, Bioderma is often on offer in many pharmacies and online, so you can always get it at a great value.

Overall: 4.8/5

Bioderma Sensibio Face Wash is a fantastic product, and I will definitely be coming back to it in the future. You just can’t beat it.
