Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Cleanser Review

Today I’m bringing you Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Cleanser Review. I know not everyone uses a separate eye makeup remover, but I do. And I must say it’s a game changer. If you don’t use an eye makeup remover, try this one and see for yourself what a difference it makes.

Liz Earle Eyebright™ Soothing Eye Cleanser 150ml €19.38

Ingredients:

Aqua (water), Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, Glycerin, Polyglyceryl-10-caprylate, Centaurea cyanus (cornflower) flower extract, Euphrasia Officinalis extract, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, Phenoxyethanol, Decyl glucoside, Panthenol, Benzoic acid, Dehydroacetic acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric acid, Sodium hydroxide, Sodium benzoate, Potassium sorbate.

A few lovely, soothing ingredients here make the product do what it says on the bottle, soothe.

Alongside the herbal components, witch hazel, cornflower, eyebright and aloe vera, glycerine and panthenol also have soothing properties.

Eyebright, as the name suggests, has brightening and refreshing properties. Witch hazel has soothing and toning properties, cornflower is also calming, and it has cooling properties. And lastly, aloe vera is hydrating, soothing and cooling.

Packaging, texture and use

Packaging

Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Cleanser comes in a lovely light blue bottle made using 50% recycled materials. The cap can sometimes be hard to open. And in the attempt to open it, it broke slightly, but it was still working. I prefer to have the bottle cap be a lift one rather than twist as it’s faster, but this one is too easy to brake.

On the front of the bottle is a claim stating that the product gently cleanses and revitalises tired, puffy-looking eyes.

Texture

The texture is a very watery consistency. It is the same as you would expect from micellar water.

Use

Liz Earle says: Apply to cotton pads before sweeping over eyelids. For a soothing compress, soak two cotton pads in Eyebright, place them over the eyes and relax for 5-10minutes.

And that’s exactly how I used it. When it says to apply to cotton pads, they mean generously soak them. Otherwise, there isn’t that much the product can do. I had to use more of this than some other eye makeup remover for the same action.

Otherwise, it’s pretty self-explanatory. I gently press the soaked cotton pads on my eyes, hold them for 30 seconds, and then gently sweep them over and off my eyes. And then I sweep a few more times to completely remove my eye makeup.

Who is Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Cleanser for?

Liz Earle says it is suitable for all skin types, and I agree. It can work on all skin types, but do a patch test before you use it on your eyelids. Also, I would say it is best for those who use only a little bit of makeup because it needs more rubbing to remove heavier eye makeup.

My experience with Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Cleanser

Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Cleanser is not the best nor the worst eye makeup remover I’ve used, as it gives a lovely soothing feeling after use. But you do have to use quite a bit of the product to completely remove the makeup.

I don’t like that the product is called an eye cleanser, but the back says it removes the final traces of makeup. That clarifies the amount of rubbing needed to thoroughly remove eye makeup. And I don’t want to be rubbing and stretching my delicate eye area. If it’s meant to be a soothing product for the eyes, it should’ve been called an eye toner. Anyway, I digress.

I found that I have to use a lot of the product to effectively remove my eye makeup, but it does remove it. And it does soothe the eyes a little bit.

But it also leaves a sticky residue on the eyes, so it has to be rinsed off.

Conclusion

I’m not sure what to say without being too harsh. It is an ok product if you’re already taking off your eye makeup with another cleanser and you need something to remove the residue. But if you are looking to use it as the primary makeup remover, I would skip it.

It takes a good bit of rubbing to remove makeup, and it requires a lot of product to do so, which ends up using up your product quite fast.

I will say it does soothe and brighten the eyes, which not many products can do, so if that is what you’re looking for, then this is the perfect product for you.

Packaging: 3/5

The bottle top broke on me within the first few uses, and I had to be extra careful how I opened it so, I didn’t lose the top completely. Also, the hole on the bottle that the product comes out of is quite large, so it dispenses a lot of product. But I suppose you need to use a lot of it to be effective, so maybe they made it that big on purpose. Otherwise, I really like the colour of the bottle and the size.

Ingredients: 4/5

In theory, the ingredients look fantastic. There are no perfumes or alcohol, but there are plenty of lovely, soothing ingredients. But the product leaves a sticky residue that doesn’t go away no matter how long you leave it. You just have to rinse it.

Value: 3/5

For the price of €19.38 for 150ml, this product is in a higher price range for what it is. Honestly, I don’t think it is worth paying that much for a product that will be used quickly and won’t remove the eye makeup entirely.

Overall: 3.33

If you are looking for a product that will brighten and soothe your eyes – this is the product for you. But if you are looking for a product that is solely going to remove your eye makeup, I would skip it. There are more effective and cheaper products to do so.
