Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser Review

Today, I’m bringing you Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser Review. By having sensitive, acne-prone skin, I have the joy of struggling to find a moisturiser that will soothe my red skin but won’t clog my pores and produce more breakouts. You might think that is not too hard, but it is.

Most of the products for sensitive skin are usually full of different heavy kinds of butter and oils that put on a protective layer on top of your skin to, you guessed it, protect your skin from external aggressors. Thankfully, by now, I learned that shea butter breaks me out, and I know to avoid it, but shea butter is in most products targeted at sensitive skin.

On the other hand, products for acne-prone skin are usually drying and irritating for sensitive skin. After trying Bioderma’s face wash, I had to try the moisturiser as well. So, let’s look at Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser.

About Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser

Here is what Bioderma says:

Sensibio Light is a moisturizing soothing cream that contributes to improve the skin’s resistance and helps to increase the tolerance threshold of sensitive skin.

A breakthrough for sensitive skin, the Toléridine™ patent, boosted by the D.A.F.™ (Dermatological Advanced Formulation), to soothe feeling of discomfort

Glycyrrhetinic acid instantly helps to soothe and ensures instant comfort.

Formulated with ingredients that have been rigorously selected for their safety, Sensibio Light guarantees optimum tolerance.

Ingredients:

AQUA/WATER/EAU, GLYCERIN, CETEARYL ISONONANOATE, ISOHEXADECANE, GLYCOL PALMITATE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, TRICETEARETH-4 PHOSPHATE, FRUCTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES, MANNITOL, XYLITOL, GLYCYRRHETINIC ACID, RHAMNOSE, LAMINARIA OCHROLEUCA EXTRACT, GLYCOL STEARATE, PEG-2 STEARATE, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, DISODIUM EDTA, XANTHAN GUM, SODIUM HYDROXIDE

The most important fact about this ingredient list for me is that there is no Shea Butter in it because Shea Butter breaks me out. But there are also no fragrances, essential oils, alcohol, parabens or silicones.

The star ingredient here is glycerine. I’ve mentioned it a few times already, but I will again. Glycerin is a humectant, so it attracts water from the environment and brings it deep into the skin, providing hydration to dry skin. And glycerin is in a high second place, meaning there is a lot of it in there, and it will deeply hydrate.

This moisturiser also has Bioderma’s two patents – a Toléridine™ patent and a D.A.F.™ patent.

Toléridine™ patent is what they call a breakthrough for sensitive skin. This complex is here to help reduce the uncomfortable feeling of sensitive skin and to strengthen the skin’s barrier.

And the D.A.F.™ patent also increases the skin tolerance threshold and strengthens its barrier.

There are a few more star ingredients here:

Caprylic/capric acid – is derived from coconut oil and can create a protective layer over the skin to prevent moisture loss.

Fructooligosaccharides – can help maintain a healthy microbiome on the skin. Fructooligosaccharides are prebiotics – food for probiotics or good bacteria. So, by applying a prebiotic to our skin, we feed good bacteria that protect our skin.

Glycyrrhetinic acid – derived from liquorice, has anti-inflammatory properties. It can help calm the skin and reduce the signs of irritation. Also, it can help reduce the appearance of dry skin by reducing the flakiness of the skin. It also has an antioxidant role and can help brighten the skin.

All in all, this really is a product for sensitive skin. There are no irritants, and the product has been formulated to strengthen the skin’s barriers alongside reducing inflammation.

(You should still do a patch test, as no product is guaranteed to suit your skin.)

Packaging, texture and use

Packaging

Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser comes in a simple, small white tube with a typical design for Bioderma. There isn’t too much going on, just the name of the product and what kind of skin it is for. Simple and effective.

Texture

The texture is a light, smooth cream. It spreads effortlessly and absorbs quickly.

Use

Bioderma recommends:

Morning and/or evening

  • STEP 1 Apply Sensibio Light on your face and neck, after cleansing.
  • STEP 2 Gently massage until fully absorbed.

And that is (almost) exactly how I use it. Obviously, you will apply it to cleansed skin, but you don’t have to apply it straight after cleansing. You can put a serum on first if you feel like you need it. And, if you use it in the morning, remember to apply sunscreen after it because this cream doesn’t provide any sun protection.

I only use it in the evening, 20 minutes after I apply my retinol. I always use SPF in the morning, and I feel that applying this cream and SPF is too much for my skin.

Who is Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser for

It is mainly for sensitive and irritated skin, but any skin type could use it. It is especially good for those with normal or combination skin looking for a gentle moisturiser. I don’t think it would suit dry or very dry skin as it is not very heavy and would probably not moisturise enough. For those with dry skin, there is the same cream in the Rich version.

Anyone looking for a hydrating moisturiser with minimal chance of irritation and with the ability to calm sensitized skin, this product is for you.

My experience with Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser

I will say it straight away I love this moisturiser. It is the only moisturiser I used so far that hasn’t broken me out. Until I found this product, I could only ever use hydrating fluids because every cream would break me out. And that’s how I learned that Shea Butter doesn’t agree with my skin – because it is in almost every moisturiser. Well, not in this one.

This moisturiser provides deep hydration without a heavy feeling on the skin. It absorbs quickly and calms the skin almost instantly. It does leave a tiny bit of a sticky surface, but that doesn’t bother me, as I only use it in the evening. But I can see how that kind of finish can be a good base for the makeup.

I usually put it on after applying my retinol in the evening, and I can say that I wake up in the morning with soft and hydrated skin. Because it has no active ingredients, only gentle, soothing ones, it works great with your other actives.

I will definitely be repurchasing this moisturiser, and I will always keep it in my stash.

Bioderma did it again. They’ve created a product that is hard to come by. A lightweight yet hydrating moisturiser that doesn’t cause breakouts. It has a lovely combination of ingredients that will soothe any skin.

With two patented complexes from Bioderma, this moisturiser provides relief to irritated and sensitized skin. It also strengthens the skin’s barrier to withstand more from the environment.

Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser Review – it works on strengthening the barrier of the skin while reducing inflammation and redness. It is a fantastic choice for anyone with normal to combination, sensitive, or acne-prone skin.

The only skin types it wouldn’t suit are dry or very dry skin, as it’s not moisturising enough. But there is a rich version for those skins.

BIODERMA Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser Sensitive 40ml €18.24

Packaging: 4.8/5

The packaging is a classic Bioderma design tube. There isn’t too much going on, but it looks sleek and easy to recognise. I would prefer that the cap is a flip top rather than the screw one, but that’s only a tiny suggestion.

Ingredients: 5/5

For me, it is so hard to find a moisturiser that won’t break me out, and this one doesn’t. The ingredients are well thought out, as they actually do what the cream says. They reduce inflammation, strengthen the skin barrier and soothe the skin. And all of that without perfumes, essential oils, alcohols or parabens. Perfect!

Value: 5/5

For €18.24, you will get 40ml of the product. And Bioderma is often on offer in many online shops and pharmacies, so it’s usually less than that price. And considering I use this product once a day, it lasts me ages. Because it is so lightweight and easy to spread, a little goes a long way.

Overall: 4.9/5

Honestly, the best moisturiser I’ve tried so far. It leaves my skin calm and soft without clogging my pores and breaking me out. And it’s not too expensive for what it is. We love to see it. Bioderma Sensibio Light Face Moisturiser is a fantastic moisturiser for anyone with sensitive skin. It works really well and will long-term strengthen your skin and reduce sensitivity.

Have you tried this moisturiser? What did you think of it? Or which one is your favourite moisturiser?
